Walking

Llanmadoc Hill overlooks the villages of Cheriton, Llanmadoc and Llangennith. The foot of the hill is just a 5 minute walk from the cabins.

From here you can walk up past the old village school, through the remaining bulwark of the iron age fort to the top of the hill. As you climb you're immediately met with fantastic views down the Loughor estuary - you'll spot Whitford Lighthouse, and closer to you the many arteries of the Bury Pill.You’ll be met by wild ponies and sheep roaming freely. From the top of the hill you can see Worm's Head and as far as Lundy Island on a clear day. From there you can walk down to Llangennith or head over to Blue Pool, Broughton Bay or Rhossili Bay.

Another favourite local walk would be from the cabins to the iconic Whitford Lighthouse. This is a well loved North Gower landmark and on a low tide you can walk all the way out to it. To get there from us you'll need to follow the road into Llanmadoc, past the pub, village shop, and Cwm Ivy cafe and then bear left - you'll find a National Trust gate at the top of a track that leads all the way down to the beach. From the beach there are a couple of different routes to the lighthouse, find detailed instructions here. The most important thing when setting out on this walk is to double check the tides so you don't run out of time to get there and back again.

Swimming

Little Broughton Bay is a great spot at high tide. To get there you walk through Llanmadoc village and follow the coastal path down to the end of Broughton Bay. If you want to extend the walk, follow Broughton Bay back and go on to Whitford Point, then return home via the pine forest and Cwm Ivy woods.

Another favourite swimming beach is Mewslade, on the West of the peninsula. This smaller cove is great for paddling in the summer and the walk from the nearby carpark is particularly beautiful in mid May.
